The Souvereign Nation of Mesa Grande

The Mesa Grande Indians is a federally recognized tribe located in northern San Diego County California.
A remote location, Mesa Grande is a quiet, scenic community just outside the busy streets of San Diego, California.

The reservation encompasses 1,820 acres and is home to approximately 130 of the Tribe’s over 800 enrolled citizens.
The Mesa Grande Band of Diegueño Mission Indians is governed by the Mesa Grande Band of Diegueño Mission Indians General Council (General Council) made up of all enrolled Tribal citizens over the age of 18. The Tribe operates as a pure democracy, with the General Council making all major decisions regarding the Tribe’s overall direction as specified by the Articles of Association.

The Mesa Grande Indian Housing Authority was established in 1994 to administer and manage the affairs of the two tribal housing developments located in Black Canyon

About Meatball Logo

The famous meatball logo was created in 1959 by James Modarelli and used through 1975. The original design suggested that the NASA program could move the United States into new frontiers, with its sphere representing planet Earth; the stars above it represent space exploration while red chevrons act like wings carrying aeronautics knowledge — all surrounded by an orbiting spacecraft going around what we now know as "a worm." The logo didn't earn its name "meatball" until 1975, when NASA decided to go with a more modern logo — the retro worm logo.
