BIOGRAPHY - Albert Einstein

Albert Einstein was born in Ulm on March 14, 1879, the first child of the Jewish couple Hermann and Pauline Einstein, née Koch. When Albert's grandmother first saw him, she is said to have continually said, "Much too fat! Much too fat!" But despite all her fears, young Albert's development proceeded normally. In November 1881, Albert's sister Maria - called Maja - was born.

A short time later, the Einstein family moved to Munich, where Albert first attended elementary school and then the Luitpold Gymnasium there. He was a "mediocre" student, but very early on he became interested in science and mathematics. He did not like the lessons at the Gymnasium, as they were conducted under strict discipline and compulsion to learn. At the age of 15, he left school without graduating and followed his family to Milan, where they had settled in the meantime.

In order to make up for the missed graduation, he attended the cantonal school in Aarau, Switzerland, starting in 1895. There, one year later, he graduated from high school (Matur) and in 1896 began studies in Zurich. His study goal was the diploma of a specialist teacher for mathematics and physics. In July 1900 he successfully completed his studies.

He moved to Bern and obtained a position at the patent office there. In his spare time he worked in the field of theoretical physics. In 1905 he published some very important scientific papers. One of them is about the groundbreaking special theory of relativity. Another work contains the most famous formula in the world "E = m - c2" . This formula states that matter can be converted into Energy.
