To celebrate the upcoming Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris 2024, France has issued this 2 Euro coin and thereby starts the countdown after the Olympic Games in Tokyo 2021. The handover of the Olympic flag during the closing ceremony in Tokyo marks the beginning of a new era of the Olympic Games in France. The last Olympic Games in France were held in Paris in 1924. A new issue of the 2 Euro commemorative coin, depicting famous French numismatic figures, will follow every year until the 2024 Games. The motive of the first issue depicts a running Marianne during a competition in front of the world-famous Eiffel Tower in Paris. The figure of Marianne has been a symbol of the French Republic in France since the French Revolution (1789-1799) and is associated with the call for "liberty, equality and fraternity". The euro coin in uncirculated quality is delivered in a yellow blistercard with the inscription "METTRE PLUS DE SPORT DANS NOS VIES" (engl.: put more Sport in our lives).
