The 16th issue in the Federal States Series is dedicated to the oldest Gothic cathedral in Germany - Magdeburg Cathedral. The cathedral is the landmark of the state capital Magdeburg and houses the tomb of Emperor Otto I the Great. The cathedral was built over a period of 300 years starting in 1209, but the completion of the church towers followed only in 1520. The towers are 99.25 m and 100.98 m high - making the cathedral, whose official name is "Dom zu Magdeburg St. Mauritius und Katharina", one of the tallest cathedrals in eastern Germany. The coin design is by artist Michael Otto and shows the northeast view of Magdeburg Cathedral. The design also includes the inscriptions "2021", "Sachsen-Anhalt" as well as the mint mark "F" (Stuttgart). The edge of the coin shows the inscription "Einigkeit und Recht und Freiheit". The 2 Euro coin Magdeburg Cathedral is delivered loose.
