The giant boa "Titanoboa cerrejonensis" lived in the rainforests of South America 58 to 60 million years ago. While mining coal with an excavator in Colombia, the fossils of a total of eight giant snakes were discovered, as well as some juveniles. It was as big as a school bus and as heavy as a small car.
The Titanoboa was the largest snake in the world
The giant snake "Titanoboa" lived at the time when the dinos had just become extinct, about 60 million years ago. At that time it was about 10 degrees warmer than today. The snake was able to grow so incredibly large because the metabolism of "cold-blooded" reptiles like snakes is directly related to the ambient temperature. The animal was a proud 14 m long and weighed about 1.25 tonnes.
