DC Comics Batman

The character Batman was created in 1939 by the writer Bill Finger and the illustrator Bob Kane and first appeared in number 27 of the series Detective Comics (which later became the publisher DC Comics).

Bruce Wayne is the son of Thomas and Martha Wayne. The history of the Waynes has been closely tied to the history of their hometown Gotham City for generations. After a trip to the movies with young Bruce, the two were robbed and shot by a thief. Bruce survived - and vowed revenge. He spent the following years and part of his inherited fortune training his body and mind. He investigated rumors that the secret organization "The Council of Owls" controlled Gotham City behind the scenes and was responsible for the death of his parents. However, all leads went nowhere and it seems that the Council has been inactive for years. Bruce began traveling the world, learning from the best criminologists and martial artists. Back in Gotham City, he soon realized that his skills alone would not be enough to successfully fight criminals. He had to intimidate them, become a symbol. While he was still thinking about how best to accomplish this, a bat that had its nest in a cave under the Wayne mansion flew through his window. This was the inspiration Bruce needed.
