Anguilla und die EC8

Das EC8-Programm (Eastern Caribbean Bank) besteht aus vier Münzen, die jedes Jahr im Namen der acht karibischen Inselstaaten geprägt werden, die der ECCB angehören: Anguilla, Antigua und Barbuda, Commonwealth of Dominica, Grenada, Montserrat, St. Kitts und Nevis, St. Lucia sowie St. Vincent und die Grenadinen. Die EZB ist die offizielle Herausgeberin des Ostkaribischen Dollars, der seit dem Start des EC8-Münzprogramms im Jahr 2018 die Währung des Landes ist.

Die Schlacht um Anguilla

Als Inspiration für die heutigen Segelregatten verweist die Geschichte Anguillas auf die "Schlacht von Anguilla", einen Konflikt auf dem Höhepunkt der Napoleonischen Kriege. Daran beteiligt waren etwa 400 französische Kolonisten von St. Martin an Bord von zwei Fregatten, die Anguilla angriffen, woraufhin die anguillanischen Verteidigungskräfte antworteten. Irgendwann wurde ein Segelboot losgeschickt, um Hilfe für die belagerten Inselbewohner zu holen, und es gelang ihm, die HMS Lapwing zu finden, die ihm zu Hilfe kam. Heute finden auf Anguilla regelmäßig Segelregatten für lokal gebaute und entworfene Boote statt.

Anguilla and the EC8

The EC8 (Eastern Caribbean Bank) program consists of four coins minted each year on behalf of each of the eight Caribbean island members that comprise the ECCB - Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Commonwealth of Dominica, Grenada, Montserrat, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. The ECCB is the official issuer of the Eastern Caribbean Dollar, the currency of the EC8 coin program since it began in 2018.

The Battle of Anguilla

As inspiration for today's sailing regattas, Anguilla history points to "The Battle of Anguilla," which was a conflict at the height of the Napoleonic Wars. It involved roughly 400 French colonists of St. Martin aboard two frigates that attacked Anguilla and the Anguillian defense forces responded. At one point, a sailboat was sent to get aid for the besieged islanders and managed to find the HMS Lapwing, which came to the rescue. Today, Anguilla hosts regular sailboat races for locally built and designed boats.
